In this demonstration, we take a look at the first days of life. With the aid of microscopes, you will get the chance to see how an egg develops into an embryo. You will learn about one of nature’s most intriguing mechanisms: embryonic diapause. This emergency stop of embryonic development assures that babies are born under most favorable conditions and is a strategy that is used by more than 130 mammalian species. You will see diapausing embryos and we will explain how we use this model to study how cells communicate to assure the development of healthy offspring.
