Vortrag: ‘Fast’ evolution versus ‘slow’ evolution...?: Make it make sense! (Stephanie Woodgate)

Understanding patterns we observe in nature can be difficult! When we study evolution on the micro-scale (short time periods or closely-related populations), we find many examples of ‘rapid’ evolution. Yet, when we study evolution on the macro-scale (very long time periods or large groups of species) we find many examples of ‘stasis’, where groups appear to stay similar for big periods of time. How can this be!? Join me to discover how we can use evolutionary theory to link patterns across time, space and size scales, from dinosaurs to lizards to bacteria, from labs to islands to continents!
