Invisible - Visible - Understood: The Microscopes from Berlin and Brandenburg
The cell theory was developed in the first half of the 19th century in Berlin. It says that all tissues in plants and animals consist of cells - an insight that was only possible with the help of microscopes. A new industry soon developed in Berlin: the manufacture of microscopes. In our exhibition, you will get to know the beginnings of this trade and gain an insight into the role microscopy plays at the MDC today.
